New mental health helpline
There is a new mental health helpline available for people of all ages — including children and young people — if you need urgent support.
It is open 24/7 and is staffed by dedicated mental health professionals. The number is 0300 303 3972.
Mental health is about our feelings, our thinking, our emotions and our moods. We all have mental health, and looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health.
At Ridgeway High School we support students with their mental health in a number of ways, detailed below.
Ms Ellis is our well-being mentor.
If a student is struggling in school, they can be referred to the well-being team for support in school and referral to external agencies, if needed.
Mrs Hodgson is our safeguarding officer.
She is also part of the well-being team.
Every lunchtime Mrs Hodgson and Ms Ellis are on duty in the refectory for an informal chat or to see to make an appointment for additional support.
Mental health first aiders
The following staff are trained in mental health first aid:
- Mrs Hodgson
- Ms Ellis
- Mrs McKune
Action for Children support the school one day a week with counselling services. If a student wishes to be referred to the school counsellor, they do so by seeing the well-being team.
