We again took part in the national Bebras UK computational thinking challenge, competing online to solve logic puzzles against students in other schools from around the country. Three hundred Ridgeway students took part during the competition window in early November 2017. They were competing against over 125 000 other entrants from across the UK!
In each of the three age categories—Junior, Intermediate and Senior—students were placed according to their scores in school. Oscar Wood achieved the best score in the Junior category, Luke McCullough achieved the best score in the Intermediate category and Will Davie achieved the best score in the Senior category. Potentially one of these students may be placed high enough nationally to be invited to a final event to be held in Oxford. Let’s hope so!
Mr Cross said: “It was great to see so many students taking part—and particularly well done to our three winners. The event is also really good because it complements the Key Stage 3 computing unit of work on algorithms that students work on in Year 8.”
