The role of the Governing Body
The main functions of the Governing Body are:
• to ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
• to hold the Headteacher to account for the performance of the school
• to oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure that its money is well spent
Who are the Governors?
Members of the Governing Body are drawn from a range of stakeholders – parents, staff, the wider community and representatives of the local authority.
There are different types of Governors:

|Co-opted Governors||appointed by the Governing Body|
|Local Authority Governors||nominated by the Local Authority|
|Associate Governors||appointed by the Governing Body (no voting rights)|
