As a proudly all-ability school, we welcome students of all academic abilities and work hard to ensure that every student achieves examination success – including at the highest grades.
We carefully track each child’s progress through our ‘Assessment Without Levels’ system. On arrival in Year 7, students receive a target for the academic year for each subject, based on primary school scores and our own ‘baseline’ tests.
These targets are raised each year as students move through the school. They are like milestones on the path to GCSE success. We assess students regularly to ensure that at least expected progress is being made. Parents receive regular, easy-to-understand reports detailing their child’s progress.
We call this system of regular monitoring and reporting ‘preventing the gap’. It allows us to identify any additional intervention that might be required to prevent a gap opening up between a student’s current progress and where we expect them to be on the path to GCSE success.
