This year’s Ridgeway community bonfire night event was another amazing success, with a record 2300 visitors joining us to enjoy the occasion, the bonfire and – perhaps most of all – the awe-inspiring firework display.
After a morning of heavy showers, the weather cleared up nicely in the afternoon. Families from the local area and further afield arrived in huge numbers to join us – the eventual total of 2300 in excess even of last year’s record-breaking 2100 visitors. By 6pm, the bonfire was ablaze and the flames made quick work of the two ‘Guys’ on top of the pyre.
There was a lovely, convivial atmosphere in the sports hall, as people took a few minutes to sit down, chat and enjoy some nice hot food and a drink (although the ice cream van, the cup cakes and the candy floss stall also did a brisk trade!). Others preferred to gather around the bonfire, watching intently as the flames took hold.
Then the fireworks began – literally! Gasps of surprise and joy, particularly from the many young children watching, punctuated the air as the display lit up the night sky in dramatic fashion. The spectacular final firework of the evening will stay long in the memory of all those who saw (and heard!) it. The ‘wow’ factor indeed.
Ridgeway has been hosting the community bonfire for several years. Working in partnership with the local community, this night has quickly established itself as a much-loved local tradition that continues to grow. Remember, remember, the fifth of November!
