Remembering “The Glorious Dead”
On 11 November, nearly 200 Ridgeway High School students paid their respects to those who have fallen in wars and conflicts in the past. They attended a service of remembrance, held at Oxton St Saviour’s church, and took part in a two-minute silence. While there, students listened to the moving account of two students’ visit to Belgium in 2014. Olivia Wallace and Demi Holland described their visit with the school to the First World War battlefields and cemeteries of the Western Front.
Also participating in the service were students who are presently in army, navy or air cadets, led by Mr Cross; all of them looked extremely smart and were clearly proud to be wearing their cadet uniforms. The students also listened to a sermon, given by the Reverend Ron Iveson, in which he focussed on the idea of remembrance. He asked students to think about how they would like to be remembered before reminding us of the importance of remembering all those who have lost their lives in war and conflict.
