On Monday 18 June, Year 10 students spent the day at the Liverpool City Region Skills Show at the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool.
This is an event which brings young people together with local employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges and universities under one roof.
The Skills Show is an opportunity to find out about the different apprenticeships and college courses that are available after secondary school. Representatives from a variety of universities were also on hand to provide information about higher education study.
Students were free to walk around the different stands, talk to the exhibitors and get actively involved with a huge range of fun activities, features and hands-on demonstrations. The photo booth, hair braiding and face glitter laid on by a local college’s hair and beauty course were particularly popular with students.
Mr Ducker said: “This was an extremely useful day. Our students are obviously at different stages in terms of their plans for post-16, but I was struck by the number who are now saying that they know exactly what they want to do when they leave Ridgeway.
This visit is only one element of the ‘futures’ curriculum at Ridgeway. Our goal is to ensure that students are aware of the full range of choices that are available once they leave school or college. We want to support students in making informed decisions and in finding accurate, up-to-date information about careers, apprenticeships, training courses and qualifications.”
