Dear Parent / Carer
You will doubtless be aware that the government has announced school closures from tomorrow — Friday 20 March — for the majority of students.
We are waiting for the government to publish a list of people they categorise as key workers. Schools have been asked to remain open for the children of key workers as well as for vulnerable students — those with an Education, Health and Care Plan or who are known to social services.
We will put a rota of staff in place to supervise these students to undertake work we have already issued. Please look out for the list of key workers, which the media will publicise. We will also publish it on our website.
If you fall into one of the categories of ‘key worker’ and would like to leave your child in school, please email my PA Helen Lynn with the following information:
- your name and an up-to-date mobile number
- how many child places you need, their name(s) and year group(s)
- your job title and employer
I should be grateful if you would provide evidence of your employment. Also, please confirm that you are the sole ‘key worker’ of your child. Places will not be available to those students who can be looked after by a non-key worker partner.
Please note that you do not have to take up the offer of a place. We are concerned that numbers will be small, that friendship groups will not be together and that staff and students remain ‘at risk’, especially if our children with an Education, Health and Care Plan have underlying medical conditions.
Our students are naturally upset by the news that GCSEs have been cancelled. We do not currently know how students will be assessed. I suspect it will be via teacher assessment and coursework. We will update you when we know. We will also let you know in due course what our plans are for the Easter break.
Please don’t forget that staff will be setting classwork in accordance with your child’s normal timetable and our website contains the online resources you will need. Look for ‘Home Learning’ in the top menu from tomorrow.
I will keep in touch. Please follow official advice to keep you and your family well.
Liz Williams, Deputy Headteacher
