This is a confidential drop-in service delivered in all Wirral secondary schools for young people. At Ridgeway, HSIS is on Monday lunchtimes. Students can speak with familiar staff. Key partners in this service are the School Nursing Service, Action for Children and Brook.
The aim of the service is to provide young people with information on all health-related matters — referred to as the service ‘core offer’.
- emotional health and well-being
- improving confidence and self-esteem
- sexual health
- drug and alcohol misuse
- smoking cessation
- healthy eating and lifestyle
The dedicated drop-in time gives young people the assurance that they can access health provision in school. The workers assess and refer appropriately to other specialist services. The main focus is education, prevention, reducing risk and promoting resilience with young people.
The HSIS youth workers have strong working relationships with external agencies, enabling a smooth transition for young people.
