The Performing Arts department offers a wide variety of enrichment activities: Musical Theatre Group, Drama Club, Love Dance, Samba Band, Choir, Keyboard Club, Instrumental Groups and Art Club.
We are also responsible for the annual whole-school production. After an outstanding production of the Queen stage musical, We Will Rock You, last year’s extravaganza was Annie. Rehearsals for this year’s production, Grease, started in November.

We run exciting and inspirational trips. In March 2016, Miss Bonsall arranged a trip to see Annie at the Liverpool Empire, starring Lesley Joseph as Miss Hannigan. As Annie was our whole-school production last year, everyone had a great time, watching the professionals. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show and sang along merrily. However, although the performance was fantastic, everyone agreed that Ridgeway’s Miss Hannigan, Jessica Rooney, outshone the ‘Birds of a Feather’ professional by a mile.
In February 2015, 40 students were lucky enough to go to Disneyland Paris for a four-day trip. They took part in Performing Arts workshops run by professionals as well as visiting the theme parks and seeing the famous sights of the city.
Ridgeway’s Got Talent is an incredibly popular annual event, providing performance and fundraising opportunities for our students – and staff! Funds raised from this event contributes to the budget for our whole-school productions, enabling us to create more extravagant shows.
‘Love Dance’ is coming into its third year at Ridgeway High School, combining performances from both primary and secondary schools across the Wirral. We plan on building on the success of this event by introducing a ‘Love Sing’ event in the summer of 2016.
At Christmas, we also go out of school to sing carols in the community. In 2015, we sang at Arrowe Park twice where we raised money for Ronald McDonald House. We also sang at Dundoran Nursing Home. The children also raised money for RNIB in Tesco Bidston.”
