The humanities department prides itself on its busy extra-curricular programme, offering a wide variety of enrichment opportunities to develop students’ knowledge, skills and understanding in humanities subjects.
Students in all year groups are given the opportunity to visit London and tour the Houses of Parliament.
In Year 7, the department runs three trips, one for each of the humanities subjects – history, geography and religious education. In Years 8 and 9, students who show a particular aptitude for humanities are invited to participate in a national mock trial competition, in which they take on the roles of lawyers and legal professionals.
At GCSE level, RE students visit places of worship, including a Buddhist temple and Anglican and Catholic cathedrals. Students who study history or RE are given the opportunity to visit Auschwitz in Poland to support their studies. Geographers visit Wales to do fieldwork at Betws-y-Coed.
