At Key Stage 4, students receive dance lessons every week, preparing for the BTEC Dance/Performing Arts qualification. During lessons they learn to express themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. They also have the chance to attend extra rehearsals and after-school clubs located in our wonderful new dance studio.
Students are introduced to different cultures and dance styles – from modern contemporary dance to traditional flamenco. They learn about technique and how pieces of movement are put together. They get to create their own group dance using the information they have researched about famous choreographers and dancers.
The after-school dance club is designed around students’ own interests. They are asked which style of dance they would like to learn and decide together on how the group moves forward. They perform throughout the year at different events. This helps massively to develop confidence and commitment to the team. They have been fundraising for their own professional uniform, which they designed themselves. Our aim is to expand the LOVE DANCERS into an award-winning group by entering competitions and having more practice sessions, making the most of our amazing facilities.
