During years 7 & 8, students receive one single lesson of Dance every week. They also have the chance to attend extra rehearsals and after school clubs located in their very own dance studio. In their weekly lessons, the pupils get a chance to express themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. They are introduced to new cultures and learning about different dance styles, from modern contemporary dance to traditional Flamenco. They learn about technique and how pieces of movement are put together, they even get to create their own group dance using the information they have researched about famous choreographers and dancers.
The after school dance club is designed around the pupils needs. They are asked which style of dance they would like to learn and decide together on how the group moves forward. They perform throughout the year at different events which helps develop confidence and commitment to the team. They are fundraising for their own professional uniform which the pupils are designing themselves. In the coming year, we are looking at growing the LOVE DANCERS into an award-winning group by entering competitions and having more practise sessions in our own dance studio.
